Message for Parents

COVID19 is unlikely to cause a serious illness in children, but please remember children can still become seriously unwell from other causes that are always around. Please do not let concerns over COVID19 stop you from contacting medical services. For information about crying babies go to https://www.what0-18.nhs.uk/national If your child is severely unwell call 999 or go to ED.

Non-Medical Help - Corona Virus

Do you need non-medical support during the current COVID-19 Outbreak?

Live Well Wakefield is a social prescribing service that links adult 18+, registered with a Wakefield GP - like ours, with non-medical support in the local area.

During the current COVID-19 outbreak they’re still accepting social prescribing referrals and are also encouraging referrals from our vulnerable patients who are self-isolating and have no support to access shopping, medication delivery and/or befriending support. They can also support you with information on up to date safety advice and help you to access additional support services as appropriate during this time.

Information on their standard service and what ‘Social Prescribing’ is, can be found on their website: Live Well Wakefield (click on the topic boxes).

At present Live Well Wakefield is unable to offer face to face appointments but all assessments will be completed over phone/email or with a family member if appropriate to ensure they can continue to support all.

To refer yourself – complete their online form Live Well Wakefield - Referrals, call them on 01924 255363 and follow instructions on the answer machine message, or message them on Facebook @LiveWellWakefield

We would like to thank you for your co-operation, patience and understanding with regards to the changes we have had to implement at the Surgery in order to protect people’s health.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

IMPORTANT MESSAGE - Could we kindly ask that you do not attend the Surgery unless you've been specifically invited by a GP/Nurse. We are still having lots of patients entering the Surgery, mainly to request medication. This can be done by email, NHS App or via the telephone (temporary basis).

It would be really helpful if this message could be passed onto relatives, friends & family.

Thank you.

The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home if you have either:

  • a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home.

Read the NHS advice about staying home, including how long to isolate for.

Please wash your hands with warm water and soap regularly.

The following appointments will still be going ahead for the time being and maybe subject to change, and as long as you are not displaying any symptoms:

Practice Nurse

  • Dressings
  • Depo
  • Smears
  • B12 ( Only when due)
  • Prostap injections
  • 6 week baby checks
  • Baby immunisations (Baby’s still need to be covered)
  • INR checks

Health Care Assistants

  • Urgent bloods only (GP request)
  • ECG (GP request)

Things not being actioned are routine bloods, routine 24hr blood pressure, ear syringing, etc.

  • Paper requests for repeat prescriptions are being discouraged, again to avoid the spread of the virus.
  • If you are not registered for Electronic Prescribing Service (EPS) please contact the surgery to nominate your chosen pharmacy to collect from.
  • Email request to prescriptions.whiterosesurgey@nhs.net
  • Online access
  • Tel prescription line on 01977 655602 (This is a temporary basis)

Remember to use the hand sanitiser provided when entering the building. Please remain courteous to our staff at all times. Any incidents of verbal or physical abuse will result in a zero tolerance warning being issued.

We understand it’s frustrating and confusing for people but please bear in mind that it’s also frustrating and confusing for NHS staff as well due to guidelines constantly changing. This is a very challenging time for us all and we would appreciate your co-operation during this period of uncertainty.

Please encourage family and friends to follow us on Facebook, this is the quickest way we can update you with the latest advice.

Our priority is the health and safety of all our patients and staff.

Thank you.

Changes to Prescription Products & Services

We are upgrading to the next phase of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) which will mean that almost all our prescriptions will be processed electronically.  We would encourage all of our patients to have a nominated Pharmacy added to your medical records.  This will ensure that the prescription is sent electronically to the correct Pharmacy for your to collect of your medication.  If you do not have a nominated Pharmacy, you will be given a token instead of a prescription.  The token can be taken to any Pharmacy, who will then scan this and be able to issue you with the correct medication.

Electronic prescriptions help save the NHS money.

Read more about EPS on the NHS website.

Other Information

Evening and Weekend GP Appointments

GP practices across Wakefield are now offering weekend and evening appointments.

The new GP Care Wakefield scheme enables patients across the district to have access to GP support after normal opening hours.

This enables patients to have access to medical advice and, if required, access to a Wakefield GP appointment, through their normal GP practice telephone number between:

18:00 and 22:00hrs Monday to Friday

and from 09.00: to 15.00hrs Saturday and Bank Holidays

Patients who use the service will be provided with medical advice from a dedicated nursing team, who can then refer them to a GP appointment that day, if required, at one of two sites across the district.
